Registered Massage Therapy: the art of healing through touch and movement

Our incredible bodies are beautifully made with each part having a purpose and function to work in coordination with our systems and structure as a whole. There are 206 skeletal bones, 360 joints and as many as 840 muscles in the adult body. Our lymphatic vessels would cover a distance in excess of 100,000 miles (160,935 km), and our fascia is a continuous system of connective tissue throughout our body and accounts for 20% of our body weight! Muscles, fascia, soft tissues, joints, and bones work together so your body can move harmoniously. When one part is impaired, a chain reaction of imbalance throughout the entire body will happen - resulting in soreness, tenderness and often in pain.

Our muscles' function (myofunction) is to produce force and motion, and they are primarily responsible for maintaining change in our posture, locomotion, and movement of our internal organs.  Tendons attach muscles to the bone and joints, and ligaments hold bone to bone. Our fascia encapsulates everything from the tiniest muscle fasicles to large sheets that spread from head to toe! Our lymphatic system runs throughout the body with the job of eliminating toxins from our bodies and flushing them out. These are the structures that can be kept healthy through regular exercise, clean diet, hydration, stress reduction and of course - natural manual therapies such as massage!

Anne is passionate about, and has extra training + certification in: lymphatic drainage, TMJ orofacial work, cupping + gua sha, thai movement, acupressure and aromatic therapies.
The most common problems with muscles are the aches and pains of daily use. Overuse of a muscle can cause soreness or cramping, and extreme overuse can result in lymphatic congestion, fascial scarring or restrictions or a muscle strain or tear. Muscle aches can also be caused by nervous tension, lack of movement, poor diet and even dehydration. In our modern society, unfortunately, these are common issues that our bodies are faced with.

In my practice I like to look at the body as a whole, and understand where the imbalance is originating, instead of just working on the 'sore area'. The  root cause of the issue is almost always located elsewhere in the body. I firmly believe that most of our complications originate from the dysfunction of our lymphatic system, and the lack of proper movement of our fascia, muscles and soft tissues.
Using gentle manipulations and a variety of techniques, I incorporate movement and lymphatic work into my treatments to encourage the body to find its way back to balance.

I look forward to working with you and being part of your wellness plan.
