Relax to the Max! - massage with with a touch of 'spa' added

Aroma Massage using essential oils or bundled plant materials (thai compresses) are a natural form of healing that does not involve any synthesized drugs. Adding these oils to a massage give the added benefits that come from the healing properties of these plants. As the skin absorbs the oils, it offers pain relief and provides the mental stimulation needed for a deeply relaxing, stress reducing massage.

These treatments are not recommended for:
  • pregnant or breastfeeding women
  • those with uncontrolled high blood pressure
  • those with environmental, strong fragrance or heat sensitivities

What are the Aroma Massage treatments?

These treatments focus on different areas of the body and groups of muscles, with targeted goals for aiding the body to heal itself. Each massage incorporates massage therapy techniques along with the use of either essential oils or plant bundles, and often hydrotherapy. These are not deep tissue treatments, but the affects of this deeply relaxing, stress reducing and immune boosting combination of massage and oils are deeply felt.

Raindrop Therapy: This treatment draws on various massage styles accompanied with blending essential oils to create a soothing, immune boosting, and rejuvenating treatment. Oils are applied to the spine, and spine reflexes of the hands and feet. Hot towels are placed for deeper hydrotherapy, and the rhythmic massage soothes the senses and promotes a deep relaxing effect. The oils and heat ease muscle pain and promote whole body healing and detoxification. Read more here.

60 minutes | 90 minutes
The treatments offered are:
Head, Face, Scalp and Neck:  Spending time addressing the stresses and tight muscles and fascia in your head, face and scalp. The neck is included in this deeply relaxing massage as it supports the head and often stresses from the neck cause the issues felt in the head, jaw and face.

Abdomen, Hips, Ribs, Neck:  Spending time with the abdomen, GI system and pelvic bowl organs using gentle massage, heat and oils.  The hips, diaphragm, ribs and neck are also treated in this massage, as they are supporting structures to your abdominal area, and to the wellness of your breathing.

Back, Neck, Shoulders and Arms: We all seem to need massage in these areas. This massage takes time addressing the connection between these structures, and gently releasing the restrictions that arise from work, screen and device use, or seasonal work such as gardening or shovelling snow!

Hips, Legs and Feet: So often we leave out this area of our body when getting a massage. This relaxing and rhythmic massage addresses the tightness we find in our hips, hamstrings, calves, and sore feet. A wonderful massage for active and sports enthusiasts, as well as those that spend a lot of time behind a desk.  Note: this massage involves working on the gluteal area (bum), and will require a special consent form to be signed.

Full Body: A wonderful massage for a full body experience. Time is spent on the muscles of your body, arms and hands, legs and feet, neck, head and face. A full treat for anyone looking for deep relaxation, restoration and rejuvenation! Due to the amount of 'territory' on this massage, it is offered in 90 minute treatments only.

History

The therapeutic use of aromatic plants seems to be as old as human civilisation itself. Many have been found at the sites of ancient burial grounds. Many ancient texts describe the various procedures and rituals involved in the making of healing ointments, medicated oils, poultices and healing perfumes. The practice of using aromatic fumigations to uplift the spirit and help cure diseases have been used by the world's greatest civilisations throughout history.

In the 1920s and 30s, Italian doctors conducted experiments on the psychological effects of essential oils. They observed the effects of the oils on blood pressure, the nervous system, pulse and breathing rates, in particular their stimulating and calming effects, although the antibacterial effects were also noted. Since its first introduction into Britain after the WWII, the aromatherapy industry has steadily grown, becoming more structured than its first humble beginnings, and expanding from its origins into healthcare environments, hospitals, GPs surgeries and complementary health centres.

Over time, professional organisations, representing the industry were established in order to give the emerging therapy more credence and structure. As a result, educational standards for aromatherapy have greatly improved, with other different bodies being set up to deal with specific subjects such as the quality of essential oils, EC legislation, NHS registration.

Nowadays, Aromatherapy is one of the most popular and effective forms of complementary medicine. The positive effects of aromatherapy are finally being proven through clinical research in laboratories around the world, despite the fact that the usefulness of these little oils has been empirical knowledge for thousands of years.
