Hot Stone Aroma Massage - hot stone therapy with a twist

Hot Stone Aroma Massage takes the age-old style of hot stone massage and gives it a modern twist by adding aromatherapy to the treatment. Hot stone therapy promotes healing by targeting the deeper layers of muscle through the use of heated stones. Aromatherapy offers deep healing and provides the mental stimulation needed for a deeply relaxing, stress reducing massage.

This is not a deep tissue treatment, but the affects are a deeply relaxing yet rejuvenating experience.
Full body, 60 minute massage

What is Hot Stone Aroma Massage?

Starting with a relaxing and rhythmic aroma massage, water-heated basalt stones are introduced and placed strategically on the body on key points ~ with or without pressure ~ for the ultimate in relaxation and pain relief. The combination of heat, essential oils and massage, causes an increase in circulation, promotes muscle relaxation and helps to restore balance to the body.

You can choose a Calming Blend or an Earthing Blend to compliment your treatment.  If you prefer to not have aromatherapy with the hot stone massage, they can be omitted from the treatment for a traditional hot stone massage treatment.

History

Many experts believe that hot stone massage therapy was first practiced thousands of years ago in India, as part of the Indian holistic health tradition known as Ayurveda. At that time, smooth stones were sought from local river beds, which were used either hot or cold as a therapeutic massaging instrument. Similar practices are known to have existed in ancient Japan and China, where warmed, smooth stones were used to heat body parts so as to improve the functionality of various internal organs.

History has shown that heated stones have been used in many cultures around the world for wellness and health practices. In Hawaii, lava rocks were warmed and laid directly on the body to boost blood circulation. Among the various people groups of North America, hot stones were in common use in sweat lodges. In Finland and Estonia hot stones are still used to this day in saunas.

While used in antiquity and continually in use among many healing traditions globally, hot stone massage therapy was kept in relative obscurity until it was “rediscovered” by Mary Nelson in 1993. Ms. Nelson stumbled upon the technique quite by accident while massaging her niece during a sauna session. She, being a professional massage therapist, soon found creative ways to integrate hot stone massage therapy into her existing practice. She dubbed the “new” technique as “LaStone Therapy.”

Today, hot stone massage therapy is relatively well known and popular in almost every region of the globe.
